Eaton Rounds Out ePDU G3 Portfolio with New 1U and 2U Models

The final additions to the company’s third-generation family of ePDU rack power distribution units are designed for easy deployment with recently released rack enclosures and forthcoming UPS models.

Eaton Corp.‘s Raleigh, N.C.-based power management unit has put the final pieces of its ePDU third-generation (G3) rack power distribution unit family in place with the addition today of new 1U and 2U products.

Introduced in 2014, the ePDU G3 portfolio is designed to combine power efficiency and reliability with ease of installation, operation, and control. The new form factors introduced today extend the company’s range of Metered Input and Managed models. The Metered Input products, when used together with remote monitoring software, let data center operators aggregate outlet-level management data from multiple ePDU devices. The Managed models let administrators both monitor and control voltage, current, power factor, and other critical variables, also at the outlet level.

Like other ePDU G3 systems, the new 1U and 2U form factors also come with a patent-pending International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) outlet grip that prevents bumps and vibration from dislodging plugs.

“In an era of increasing hyperconvergence, data center managers and IT professionals continue to seek power distribution solutions that simplify their need to manage complex IT resources,” said Jessica Biggerstaff, ePDU product manager for Eaton Distributed Power Solutions, in a press statement. “These professionals can now leverage our complete ePDU G3 portfolio to conserve valuable time while reducing operational costs and improving control over their critical infrastructure.”

In keeping with a new emphasis by Eaton on ease of deployment, the new ePDU G3 offerings are designed to fit seamlessly with the rack-based RS Enclosures that Eaton rolled out last month.

“We’re really focused on end users and partners being able to spend less time doing the work that’s required around infrastructure products,” said Eaton product manager David Windsor in an interview with ChannelPro.

Further to that end, he added, Eaton will soon introduce new additions to its 9PX uninterruptible power supply line that integrate with both its new RS Enclosures and the new power distribution units launched today.
