I ran the usual battery of tests in this round and left out the few tests that I feel are questionable such as the new Doom III scores which seem to vary very greatly between the sites on the net leaving me with hesitation before using them as an accurate measuring tool for gauging performance levels. We really try to avoid using synthetic tests in our lab such as SiSoft Sandra and try to maintain the integrity of actual real time system use to evaluate said product.
The results show the 3200+ to perform better in some areas and slower than others which is usually the case when testing AMD and Intel head to head. In most areas the CPU's performed very closely with AMD leading in the most of the 3D gaming tests and the others being almost neck to neck with the exception of 3Dmark 2001SE where Intel's 3.0GHz at 800MHz FSB took the lead by a wee bit. I avoided using tests for evaluating rendering performance as Intel has always took the lead in this arena and not many people buy a desktop computer for this purpose in most cases anywhere. Games are what most people can relate to as far as scoring goes so I tried my best to stay within that realm.
