ASUS P5GDC-V Motherboard Review :: Setup and Bundle
The bundle is extensive on the hardware side of things. The inclusion 4 SATA cables and the requisite power connections and 3 IDE cables and a floppy cable is especially gratifying. Too often, I see motherboard manufacturers skimp with only one SATA connector one IDE cable and one floppy cable. With the P5GDC-V Deluxe, there's no need to dig around for an extra cable as it's included in the packaging. The other cables included bring the USB port total to 6 on the board. The chipset supports a maximum of 8 USB 2.0 ports, but with everything else on the board, it's a good trade off. The Firewire cable brings the total of Firewire ports on the board to 2, also sufficient for the vast majority of users. The software side of the bundle is a bit also very nice. I normally like to see an antivirus program included with a motherboard bundle. Asus includes the WinDVD Suite, consisting of WinDVD Platinum 5, WinDVD Creator Platinum 2, and WinRip 2. WinDVD 5 is the latest DVD playback software from InterVideo. WinDVD Creator allows you to add sound effects and images to create movies. WinRip plays back MP3 files. Setup of the Asus P5GDC-V went without incident. One thing I have to take ASUS to task over is the lack of included floppy disks for the SATA controller. In order to install the operating system on a SATA drive you normally need a SATA driver disk. I would hope that ASUS and other motherboard manufacturers started including the floppy disks on every motherboard.
