MSI decided to use the American Megatrends Incorporated BIOS. Almost every motherboard on the market either uses the AMI or the Award Phoenix BIOS. The K9A Platinum has the standard features of the AMI BIOS with tweaking options for the overclocker in all of us.

MSI K9A Platinum Motherboard Review Battery

Battery

The FSB can be set from 200 MHz (default) to 400 MHz. CPU voltage can be set from 0.8v-1.4v or can be set to be up to 23.3% above the default core voltage. The K9A Platinum supports DDR2 400, 533, 667, 800 MHz. Memory voltage can be set from 1.8V to 2.3V.

Overclocking the K9A Platinum is a breeze and a joy. I was able to successfully overclock the board to a 310MHz HTT speed, and a 10% overclock on the CPU speed. 10% isn't much but is limited by the CPU, not the board. Memory overclocking was set to 1034 MHz, a nice increase over the 800 MHz default setting.
